Accuraty has recently upgraded its primary email solution to the version 6.5 release of SmarterMail. This upgrade is significant in two many areas. 1) massive improvement to the spam prevention abilities that are native to the product. In the coming weeks, Accuraty experts will be configuring and tweaking these new tools for maximum effect. 2) Dozens of new and enhanced features have been added to the product including IMAP retreival, smartphone synchronization (ask about Exchange ActiveSync), enhanced advanced Outlook synchronization and collaboration, new reports, customizable event notifications (get an email when your mailbox is 80% full), and we now fully support advanced message archiving compliant with Sarbanes-Oxley and HIPAA regulations.

We are also excited about SmarterMail's new Mailbox Migration and Mail Server Conversion capabilities which make it easier than ever to move to Accuraty's hosted solutions with zero downtime.

Accuraty Solutions has added another mail server to the mix. This one is primarily positioned as a backup mail server, usually used as an MX 20. This means that if your primary mail server is down for a few minutes, mail will go to the backup mail server where it will be stored, waiting until the primary mail server comes back online. This new mail server is physically in Colorado. The other servers are in Kansas and Virginia. This type of wide distribution maximizes uptime and virtually eliminates any possibility of complete service loss for Accuraty and all our clients.

Server and Mail Services Updated

HOT: Blackberry and iPhone support added! The primary email servers for Accuraty underwent a massive upgrade over the weekend. Click above for details!

The upgrade resulted in two short outages. One server reboot had the mail services down for about 4 minutes. The actual upgrade and expansion had us down for slightly longer than 15 minutes. All this was done between the hours of 11pm and 2am (late Sat). As always, the backup mail servers were online and caught, held and later delivered any emails that might have come through during those times.

One of the key additions to our spam prevention arsenal moved out of testing and went live also. We are now using a product called invURIBL by Invariant Systems. This amazing tool identifies SPAM by extracting URI's (domain names and IPs in links) from emails and checking them against URI based blacklists. In addition, we have added a unique feature that allows you to check the URI's IP address and remote mail server against Senderbase, the world's leading email traffic monitoring network. Though we already do a good job at Spam defense, this new technique may catch a few more that otherwise would have slipped through the other spam prevention tools we use (SpamAssassin, etc).

The big news on the email services front is that we now support SyncML. It is no secret we use SmarterMail and this upgrade to 5.5 supports the SyncML protocol allowing any SyncML client to synchronize Contacts, Calendars, Tasks and Notes with devices such as BlackBerry, Windows Mobile, Outlook, iPhone, and Thunderbird, etc.

Last but not least, the server itself went from single to dual processor, doubled the RAM and went from a meager 30 GBs of local storage to a massive 300 GB iSCSI RAID5.

Thanks - Accuraty/Jeremy
